El Mirage

Oh hey there! So it turns out that I some how have about 10 shoots that I haven’t blogged yet because I’m a hoarder of shoots. Such a weird realization to have.

Here’s a set from a recent (ish) test out in El Mirage Dry Lake! Started in the sun and shot into the twilight.

As always, questions are welcome. I’m a huge believer in pushing each other forward so if there’s ever a question in your head that stays locked in there, I’m going to call you silly. Always pursue what you want to learn. I’m here to help!

tip:

The lighting for these was pretty simple! Since we were shooting in the middle of a dry lake bed, there wasn't any shade around so I used diffuser to soften the hard sunlight before it hit their skin. This left me with softer skin tones/texture, and less dramatic light. Later on, that diffuser turned into a wind screen to keep us from freezing. Win win.

Ben! Love this – saw it on IG and had to come to your blog to see more.

btw, i noticed you are putting your hashtags as your first comment..and some separator periods/space – . brilliant – i love how it makes the photo and the message much cleaner…and if you auto post to fb, then it’s not full of your ig hashtags.

    Yes yes!

but……does it work just as well (in terms of getting your work exposed via hashtag) as if you put the hashtags in the original posting

Ben, these are amazing. at what time of day were these shot?

    • Thanks Riley! These bright set was shot about an hour before sunset and the rest were shot just after once the sun was completely hidden by the horizon.

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it
was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m
thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new
to the whole thing. Do you have any suggestions
for novice blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.

    • Thanks, Nanoo! Honestly, I don’t think of myself as a writer much but I think the reason people tend to enjoy my writing is because I don’t try to put on a mask. I write how I would speak, lame jokes and all!
